We’ve taken our research on communication duirng training sessions, on the field, when giving feedback and in the dressing room and used it to create a range of training modules that will make teams, coaches and athletes more effective communicators when it really matters – in pursuit of your sporting goals.
Focus on team communication
What communication abilities do teams need to be able to work together cohesively? How can players and coaches communicate effectively in team talks? What communication skills do young players need to develop in order to make the step up to a professional team? These are some of the questions we can address in workshops that aim to help improve team communication. Working on your team communication can help improve team work, build positive team relationships and get everyone on the same page.
How do leaders communicate in sports teams and sporting organisations? We run workshops to help athletes develop communication skills for leadership that can help athletes with their sporting careers and with other professional careers they pursue after sport.
Communication skills for coaches: giving feedback
In this workshop, we will consider how coaches (can) use language when interacting with their players to achieve a range of important interpersonal goals (i.e. to keep players motivated, to persuade, to empower, to strengthen relationships etc). We do this by concentrating on ‘giving feedback’ to players – a communicative task that is a common one for professional football coaches.
Communication 101: communicating on and off the field

In this introductory workshop, through a series of interactive tasks, we aim to increase awareness of what communication is, how it works, what it helps us to achieve and why it is important for athletes and teams. We concentrate on three functions of communication that are important for those aiming to embark on a career in professional football. They are:
- How communication can help and/or hinder teamwork
- How communication helps to strengthen and maintain professional relationships
- How communication works to create and manage a positive impression
